Open workshop with the Australian Haydn Ensemble 26-27/10/2019, Berry Public School
Throughout the year SYO holds several open workshops with various notable ensembles and musicians from around Australia. These workshops are designed to allow students the opportunity to work with different professional ensemble tutors focussing on different aspects of music and performance.
This year SYO invites all string players (Grade 3 or above) in the Shoalhaven and surrounding areas to a weekend workshop with players from the Australian Haydn Ensemble. This workshop will develop baroque and classical styles of playing among students and also give students the opportunity to play period instruments.
The weekend will be followed by a combined concert on the Sunday afternoon with all welcome to attend!
This is a fantastic weekend not to be missed by any young aspiring string players.
“I’ve been part of the SYO for 10 years. It was a fantastic opportunity for me to develop as a young musician gaining practical experience in playing with and performing in an ensemble. The Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra is an excellent opportunity for young musicians who wish to develop their knowledge and love for playing an instrument. I have continued to meet people and gain new experiences through playing with the SYO and opened up many pathways for my future.”
The Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra is the premier youth orchestral music group in the Shoalhaven. Rehearsing on Tuesday afternoons at the Nowra School of Arts students develop upon their ensemble skills, sight reading abilities and understanding of orchestral repertoire.
The Shoalhaven Junior Strings is a training ensemble for junior orchestral string players, preparing them for rehearsal and performance with the senior orchestra. Rehearsals are help on Tuesday afternoons at the Nowra School of Arts.
Tuning In! is the music education program of SYO. Trained music educators conduct various classes for children aged between 2 and 12 in Nowra and Berry. The program develops basic musical skills as well as allowing children to try out, and begin to learn, all the instruments of the orchestra.
