Symphonic Stories January School Holidays Program 2021
Monday 18 – Tuesday 19 January 2021
The Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra presents a music day camp over two days for primary and high school students of all abilities in the January School Holidays.
If you play a brass, woodwind, percussion or string instrument join SYO for two days of music making, workshopping symphonic masterpieces and the opportunity to meet like minded students and develop lasting friendships.
The two days of intensive workshopping is lead by our experienced Musical Directors and assisted by local music educators and performers who will spend the two days imparting knowledge for ensemble playing and ways to continue to improve on your instrument.
Which ensemble to register for
Youth Orchestra: Register to play with the Youth Orchestra if you are a brass, woodwind, percussion and string player. Students should be of a Grade 2+ to play comfortably in this ensemble.
Junior Strings: Register to play with the Junior Strings ensemble if you are a beginner string player. This is for beginner string players who have only been playing for a few years. The Grade level of the ensemble is between 0.5 and 2.
“Membership of the SYO has been excellent for my development as a musician. I have gained experience in playing in an ensemble, which is not easy to get as a pianist. I’ve also had a lot of fun rehearsing, performing and also learning from experienced musicians including our conductor and the Haydn Ensemble.”
Our Programs
Quartet
The Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra Quartet is made of our principal violinists, violist and cellist. This ensemble may perform regularly and is available for private functions.
Junior Strings
The Shoalhaven Junior Strings is a training ensemble for junior orchestral string players, preparing them for rehearsal and performance with the senior orchestra. Rehearsals are help on Tuesday afternoons at the Nowra School of Arts.
Instrument Hire
The Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra maintains a full inventory of orchestral instruments available for hire.
Tuning In!
Tuning In! is the music education program of SYO. Trained music educators conduct various classes for children aged between 2 and 12 in Nowra and Berry. The program develops basic musical skills as well as allowing children to try out, and begin to learn, all the instruments of the orchestra.
Workshops
The Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra hosts a series of combined orchestral workshops throughout the year. This allows students the chance to perform in a full sized orchestra and work with professional tutors.
Camp
The Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra hosts an annual camp in which youth orchestral musicians of the Shoalhaven come together for an overnight camp to workshop challenging repertoire and work with professional tutors.
